How do I create a Custom Item in Firestop Locator?

In this article we will walk through the steps involved in creating a new Custom Item in FSL

Items/Markers are the visual indicator used to mark a firestop or life safety service in Firestop Locator. When you first a new project in Firestop Locator you are given six default item types that you can place in your project. These items are considered the most common fire life safety elements of a project that you may want to track using Firestop Locator.

Each item includes fields that you populate with data as you place markers on your project's floorplan in Firestop Locator. You can add additional data fields or inspection fields to any existing item to meet your projects needs. These additional fields can also be flagged as required ensuring that your team members are populating all relevant data as they conduct work. An important note to keep in mind is that any item changes are project specific and will not carry over to other projects on your account or projects that you are participating in.

You may want to create a new item type in addition to the starting six items to meet a specific project's need. For example, you may want to track sprinkler heads, egress lighting, or AED Locations along side your other life safety services. To create a custom item open the project that you want to add the custom item to. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select the blue "+ Add Item Type" button.

A new window will appear that allows you to define the item name, letter code used to represent this item on your floor plan, as well as standard fields that you can toggle off by clicking the eye graphic to the right of the field name. After clicking the green "Save Item Type" button on the bottom of the window you will be taken to the details page of your new item. You can add additional data or inspection fields here just like how you can on the predefined six items that are created with each new project in Firestop Locator.
